🧡 Truth and Reconciliation: Why This Day Matters
Share
Today is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. For some, it might look like just another holiday on the calendar — but in reality, it is a day of remembrance, truth, and reflection.
It is about honouring the children who never came home, the survivors who carry scars both visible and invisible, the families forever broken, and the generations still feeling the impact of the residential school system.
This is not distant history. It is a living wound, and it requires all of us to acknowledge it, talk about it, and take action toward reconciliation.

Why It Hits Me Personally
This honestly hits me hard every year.
I think back to what I witnessed in British Columbia when unmarked graves were being uncovered. I remember the heaviness, the collective grief, and the heartbreak that came with seeing such devastating truths rise to the surface. The pain was everywhere — and it wasn’t new. It was pain that had been silenced for far too long.
It also hits close because of my own family. My dad is Métis. This isn’t just a piece of Canadian history — it’s part of my own story, my family’s history. It makes the weight of this day more personal and more real.
And as a father who has lost a child of my own — not to this tragedy, but to loss all the same — I connect with the pain of families who never saw their children again. That grief is something you carry for life. It never leaves you, but you learn to hold it differently over time. And on days like today, that pain is raw all over again.

Why We Must Keep Talking
Silence protects no one. It only deepens wounds.
Talking about Truth and Reconciliation means facing uncomfortable realities, but it also opens doors to healing. It’s about telling the truth, refusing to look away, and committing to a better future for the generations to come.
Reconciliation isn’t a one-day event. It’s a lifelong commitment. It means listening to Indigenous voices, learning the truth about what happened, and asking ourselves honestly: What can I do to help?

Show Up Today
Across Canada, and right here locally, there will be events happening today — gatherings, ceremonies, and spaces of remembrance and learning. I encourage you to attend one if you’re able. Be present, listen deeply, and allow yourself to learn from the stories being shared.
Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is to show up, to witness, and to hold space for others’ pain. That, too, is part of reconciliation.

Moving Forward Together
At Evolve Supply Co., we believe in community, healing, and awareness. That means using our voice and our platform not just for products, but for purpose. To us, being “more than a brand” means talking about the hard things, creating space for conversations that matter, and standing alongside communities that deserve recognition and support.
🧡 Every Child Matters. 🧡
So today, take time to pause. Read survivor stories. Learn about the history. Attend a local event. Share the truth with someone else. These steps may feel small, but they matter — every single one.
Healing begins with truth. Reconciliation begins when we face it together.
