Canadian Mental Health Association
Founded in 1918, the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) is the most established, most extensive community mental health organization in Canada.
We are a federated charity, which means we are a collective of organizations bound together by a brand and mission. Together, we identify and respond to Canada’s most pressing mental health priorities. At the national level, we push for nationwide system and policy change. At the community level, millions of people in Canada rely on CMHA’s extensive grassroots presence.
Breaking Free Foundation
The main focus of the Breaking Free Foundation is to help make trauma healing more accessible for everyone. One of the ways in which we are doing this, is through our therapy grant program, which allows approved candidates to receive designated trauma therapy services, paid for via our foundation.
Our grants are only approved for use with trauma therapists in Alberta. Any trauma-informed therapy whether it’s psychology, EMDR, equine therapy, art therapy or whatever is calling to you, can be supported through our grant. The only stipulation, is that therapists are subject to approval by Breaking Free.
Approved candidates, will receive $750 towards trauma-informed treatments, paid directly to the therapist. We know this kind of specialized therapy can be expensive, and this may not cover the duration of a client’s needs, but we believe wholeheartedly this will give clients a good head-start with their healing. Once clients have used their $750 grant, they can reapply for a second grant (lifetime max of $1,500 per client).
We want to pave the road for trauma healing and create valuable conversations about mental health, trauma and abuse. Removing the stigma, starting the healing, one day at a time.
